Effect of Silage Feeding on the Production Performance of Dairy Cattle in UD Sultoni

The components commonly considered in the formulation of dairy cattle feed are forage and concentrate. Forage can account for 60% of the dry matter, while concentrate makes up 40% of the total feed dry matter. However, during the dry season, there are often challenges in meeting the forage requirements. Additionally, the quality of forage tends to decrease during this period. Therefore, the use of silage preservation methods becomes necessary to store forage from the harvest season. The equipment used in silage production includes drums, choppers, shovels, buckets, scales, and rakes. The materials used in silage making are corn stalks, molasses, EM4 (Effective Microorganisms), concentrate, and water. The required materials for this research include milk from 20 lactating dairy cows, which will serve as the sample. The chosen method for this research is a quantitative descriptive method, which involves observation. The variables used in this research are silage consumption, milk quantity, and milk quality. The use of silage can save up to 10kg of forage per cow. Incorporating silage into the dairy cattle feed can result in increased milk production. At UD. Sultoni, the use of silage has shown an increase in dairy milk production of 4 liters per day. Based on organoleptic tests, the milk quality is considered good, meeting the criteria of a yellow color, less-salty taste, and no off-putting aroma. Chemical analysis indicates that the milk contains 3.98% fat, 3.05% protein, and 12.45% total solids.
