Review: Evaluation of Moringa Oliefera Leaf Utilization in Feed on Rabbit Performance

Abstract

Moringa (Moringa oleifera) is an economical plant and contains good nutritional value so that it can be used as an alternative nutrition for livestock, especially rabbits. Moringa has several advantages, one of which is a plant that can live in tropical climates such as in Indonesia. Moringa has several characteristics of woody stems, upright, dirty white color, thin skin and rough surface. The nutritional value of moringa leaves is 29.61% protein, 1318.29 kcal/kg metabolic energy, 7.48% fat, 8.89% fiber and 10.13% ash content. Moringa plants, especially the leaves, are subjected to a crushing process aimed at reducing particles so that livestock can easily consume them. The nutritional content of moringa leaf flour contains 27.27% protein, 7.28% fat, 47.96% carbohydrates, 6.96% water, 10.35% ash and 35.34% fiber. The high content of protein and dietary fiber in moringa leaves makes moringa function as a functional and alternative food. Utilization of moringa flour by 3%-60% can increase feed consumption, body weight gain and carcass quality of rabbits.
