Effect of Cage Type (Close House and Open House) and Strain on Layer Productivity in The Final Period (85 Weeks) Case Study at Buana Intan Sejati Farm

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the type of cage (close house and open house) and chicken strain on the production performance of laying hens in the rejected period (85 weeks). The study was a biological study using 16,000 laying hens of the Hy-Line Brown strain and the Lohman Brown strain. The laying hens studied were 85 weeks old (reject period). The experimental design used in this study was a 2x4 Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor is the type of cage (close house and open house) (K) and the second factor is the chicken strain (S) which consists of Hy Line Brown and Lohman Brown strains. Each treatment used 1000 chickens and was repeated 4 times. Statistical analysis showed that cage type had a very significant effect (p<0.01) on feed consumption, HDP, egg weight, FCR, percentage of whole eggs and percentage of cracked eggs. Chicken strain had a very significant effect (p<0.01) on feed consumption, egg weight, whole eggs, and cracked eggs and significantly (p<0.05) on FCR. The interaction between the two factors gave a very significant effect (p<0.01) on HDP, egg weight, FCR and significantly p<0.05) on the percentage of whole eggs. The conclusion of this study is the interaction between the type of cage and the strain of chickens can increase the productivity of laying hens.
