Evaluation of The Physical Quality of Elephant Grass Silage with the Additional Level of Effective Microorganism (EM4)

This study aims to determine the effect of the use of rice bran and EM4 on the nutritional quality of elephant grass silage and to determine the best level of rice bran and EM4 on the nutritional quality of elephant grass silage. It was carried out in the UN BLITAR Animal Husbandry laboratory for two weeks. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) which consisted of four treatments and four replications so that there were 16 experimental units. The treatments tested in this study consisted of 1) R0: 3 kg elephant grass without rice bran and EM4; 2) R1 : elephant grass 3 kg + rice bran 100 gr + ground corn 100 gr; 3) R2 : elephant grass 3 kg + rice bran 200 gr + EM4 200 gr and; 4) R3 : elephant grass 3 kg + rice bran 300 gr + EM4 300 gr. The results showed that making elephant grass silage with a combination of 200 grams of rice bran plus 200 grams of EM4 for every 3 kilograms of elephant grass forage was able to give the best results for the variable crude protein content of 12.61% and crude fiber of 28.37% while for the variable content of dry matter showed relatively the same treatment value. In general it can be said that the administration of rice bran combined with EM4 in the manufacture of elephant grass silage is able to maintain the nutritional value of elephant grass content.
