Analysis of Essential Fatty Acid and Antioxidant Content in Candlenut Seed Flour (Aleurites mollucana (L.) Willd.) as Feed Additive for Broiler Chickens

Abstract

At present, grill poultry represents one of the most rapidly expanding livestock commodities. In 2016, the grill population reached 1,592,669,402 chicks (BPS, 2016). Enhancing the chicken population necessitated high-quality feed, which contributed up to 70% to the success of the livestock enterprise. The adequate consumption of nutrients is essential for optimal meat production and quality. The utilisation of candlenut kernel meal significantly affected feed intake (P<0.01). Subsequent analysis using Duncan's multiple-range test revealed that the P4 treatment exhibited notable variations in feed intake. The incorporation of candlenut kernel meal did not significantly affect (P>0.05) body weight increase. The impact of candlenut kernel meal on the feed conversion ratio (FCR) shown a statistically significant effect (P<0.05). The impact of candlenut kernel meal on income over feed cost (IOFC) shown no significant effect (P>0.05). The use of P4 therapy significantly influenced total erythrocyte count, haemoglobin levels, and meat cholesterol content in broilers. Candlenut kernel meal significantly influences (P<0.05) mean corpuscular volume (MCV), but does not significantly impact (P>0.05) mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) levels. The investigation concluded that the fatty acid components in the candlenut kernel meal included linoleic acid (42.08%), linolenic acid (27.30%), and an antioxidant with an IC50 of 69.80 mg/ml. The incorporation of 1% candlenut kernel meal may enhance body weight gain, income over feed cost (IOFC), erythrocyte count, and blood haemoglobin levels, while reducing feed consumption, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and cholesterol content in grill meat.
