Improving the External and Internal Quality of Layer Chicken Eggs through the Use of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) and Pineapple (Ananas comosus) as Feed Additives

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using a feed additive combining calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and pineapple fruit (Ananas comosus) in laying hen feed on both external and internal egg quality. The material used consisted of 80 Isa Brown laying hens aged approximately 7 months. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed as the experimental method, with 5 treatments and 4 replications, each flock comprising 4 hens. The feed treatments were as follows: P0 = Basal Feed (BF), P1 = BF + 0.4% feed additive, P2 = BF + 0.6% feed additive, P3 = BF + 0.8% feed additive, and P4 = BF + 1.0% feed additive. The research data were recorded and tabulated using Excel and analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) if significant differences (P<0.05) were observed between treatments. The study found that the addition of up to 1% feed additive had a significant effect (P<0.05) on egg weight (57.03 grams), eggshell thickness (0.35 mm), yolk volume (16.89 ml), albumen volume (33.56 ml), and yolk color score (8.32). It can be concluded that the addition of a feed additive combining calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and pineapple fruit (Ananas comosus) to laying hen feed up to a level of 1% can positively influence both external and internal egg quality.
