Heat Stress Mitigation Strategy in Laying Hens with Sodium Bicarbonate and Vitamin C Supplementation

Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country that is challenging for farmers including layer farm. The purpose of writing this article is to determine the effect of vitamin C and sodium bicarbonate supplementation as a strategy to mitigate heat stress in laying hens. The writing method used in this article was a study from research journals that contain about supplementation of vitamin C and Sodium bicarbonate to reduce heat stress. Some researchers said that supplementation of vitamin C and Sodium bicarbonate is becoming a way to reduce negative effect of heat stress. Negative effect of heat stress in layer farm can be reducing production quantity, egg quality, layer health issue. And in chronic situation, heat stress cause death. Vitamin C supplementation on 500g/ton feed or 1 g/5L water is applicable to layer farm. Supplementation Sodium bicarbonate can be given to feed at a dose 0.5% of feed.
